The Light Filled Still Life (Oil and Acrylic)
2 Day Weekend Workshop
August 1-2
9am to 4pm
Brookfield Art Pavilion, 550 Brookfield Rd, Brookfield QLD 4069
Unlock the secrets of creating radiant still life paintings that capture the drama of light. In this intensive two-day workshop, you’ll learn how to transform ordinary objects into paintings filled with luminosity and depth. This workshop is perfect for artists who want to elevate their still life paintings with a focus on light and atmosphere.
You’ll learn the fundamentals of light behaviour and how it affects colour and form, techniques for strengthening colour temperature and value relationships, and how to create dramatic compositions that maximise light effects.
This workshop is suitable for beginners through to more experienced painters who want to loosen up, strengthen their understanding of light, and bring more colour and clarity into their still life paintings. Through demonstrations, guided exercises and individual painting time, students will explore ways to create radiant, light-filled still life studies without becoming overwhelmed by detail.
Oil and acrylic painters are welcome. Instruction will be conducted in oils.
Venue and Access
550 Brookfield Rd,
Brookfield QLD 4069
The workshop will be held at the historic Brookfield Art Pavilion, located in the beautiful rural suburb of Brookfield. This spacious venue has been connected with art-making for over 100 years and provides a generous, light-filled setting for the workshop. There is plenty of parking available in the dirt car park outside, and the venue includes a kitchenette with a fridge if you would like to bring a packed lunch. There is also a café next door. Please bring your own easel, as there are no standing easels available on site. Tables and chairs will be provided if you prefer to work seated, and a small table easel may be useful. The pavilion can be a little cool on winter mornings, so please dress warmly; by mid-morning, once the sun warms the space, it is usually very pleasant. Toilets are located a short walk down the hill behind Brookfield Hall, with ramp access available. More information is available via the Brookfield website
Materials
Please bring your usual painting supplies. A detailed materials list will be sent upon registration, and I encourage students to use what they already have where possible.
