WORKSHOP & CLASS INFORMATION

Location

Classes are held in the Brookfield Art Pavilion which has been a hub for art classes for many years now. Enter the gate with the white fence on the left, just after the Boscombe Road turn off, but just before the General Store. If you miss it you can turn around at the round-about further down the road.

Each week I will start the class with a brief discussion and sometimes demonstrate what we are learning but most of the class time you will spend working on your own painting with individual guidance to help you reach your goals.  I like to encourage everyone’s unique personal style so I won’t be discouraging your ideas or instincts, but instead will help you follow your ideas to see them to developing your own style of painting.

You can use oil or acrylic mediums for this class.

All levels welcome.
Beginners - You will have a supportive environment to develop confidence and momentum
Intermediate to Advanced - You will have a choice of techniques to help you establish your style. You can select your own subject matter to challenge yourself or follow along with the class.

Individual instruction will be provided throughout the class based on your level of skill and experience.

You will be encouraged to take risks, experiment and most of all enjoy the painting experience.

Materials

If you are an experienced painter please bring your usual painting kit with a few small 8x10 panels to get started.  If you need assistance with purchasing the right materials please feel free to email or call me.

FAQs

This is an adult art class for 18+ based on the concepts taught and the commitment required by students.

I‘m an absolute beginner with no experience, is this class for me?

Yes!  My classes cater to a mixed level of experience and I can get you started and painting with the group regardless of your skill level.

I’m an experienced artist, is this class for me?

More challenging subjects and exercises will be provided to push the experienced artist while you paint along with the rest of class. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions that relate more to your style and advanced techniques. Other people in the class will benefit from these questions too.

What is the difference between a class and a workshop?

Classes run on a weekly basis during the four school terms each year.

Workshops range from 1 to 5 days and are a once off event held at various times throughout the year, both during and outside of the term schedule.

How many students in the class?

I offer a small class size of around 10-12 people to guarantee students receive individual attention.

Where can I buy art materials?

I recommend the Art Shed West End for high-quality art supplies at a reasonable price. I do buy some brushes and canvas panels at Officeworks too.

What do I need to bring to classes?

Please refer to the materials list for art supplies required for this class. If this class does not have specified materials - bring your usual painting kit. Contact me if you are just starting out and need help in purchasing supplies.

Are there kitchen facilities at the studio?

Yes! Basic tea and coffee supplies will be available. If you would like to bring in morning tea or a snack or a particular brand of tea/coffee feel free.

The Brookfield Store is located next door and has great lunch options and other snacks/coffee.

What do I need to wear?

I recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. An apron is advisable and will prevent most paint marks but accidents do sometimes happen.

Can I take photographs or videos in class?

I encourage students to focus on the learning in the moment and request that my demos are not filmed. Out of context I do not think they are a suitable learning tool.  As a courtesy, please ask me or any other students if you wish to take a photo during class. I recognize that this can be a useful tool to refer to later.

Cancellations and Refunds

Full refunds for change of mind or unforeseen circumstances will be offered up to 5 days prior to classes or workshops beginning. After this time I am not able to offer refunds as I have up front payments for the venue and supplies for the class. The class fee is for the term. Unfortunately I am unable to give refunds for individual lessons missed as the cost covers not only the lesson, but supplies I will provide during the term as well as the venue. Please consider your ability to commit to the class before purchasing.

Make Up Lessons

Unfortunately, due to being a small boutique provider, I am unable to offer make up lessons.  If, due to unforeseen circumstances, a class is cancelled, the class will be refunded. In the case of a lockdown, a zoom class may be offered in place of the usually scheduled class

Is there parking at the studio or public transport nearby?

There is plenty of free parking available at the hall.  Please note it is a dirt/gravel car park. There is a BCC bus stop 100m from the hall.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

The hall is on the ground level, however, the toilet facilities are located at the store next door and are not wheelchair friendly.  Please feel free to contact me to discuss any accessibility needs.
